What are scholarships for?

Opal HealthCare scholarships provide financial support for team members wishing to develop their skills through tertiary studies that will benefit their role, career development and help bring joy to those we care for.

What is the Opal HealthCare Academy scholarship program?

The Opal HealthCare scholarship program helps eligible team members continue their learning and professional development through approved study. Scholarships are designed to build skills, support career growth, and strengthen our future workforce. Support is provided in line with the conditions outlined in your scholarship offer or confirmation letter.

Who can apply?

Eligible Opal HealthCare team members can apply if they meet the requirements of the current scholarship round and are undertaking approved study that supports their role, career development or an identified workforce priority. Please review the eligibility criteria for each scholarship round before applying.

What types of study may be supported?

Support may be available for short courses, recognised professional certifications, skill sets and multi-year qualifications that align with workforce priorities and provide clear career or capability value. Not every course will qualify.

When can I apply?

Scholarships are generally offered in two rounds each year, aligned where possible with February and July study intakes. Application dates and updates are shared through the Village and the Dayforce App.

Do I need my manager's support?

Yes. Manager endorsement is required as part of the application process. We encourage you to discuss your study plans with your manager before applying so they can consider how the course supports your development and how your study commitments can be balanced with operational requirements.

How do I apply?

If you're using an Opal HealthCare device, access Village, then navigate to: 

Academy > Scholarships 

Follow the application link, complete the Scholarship Application Form, and provide the required supporting information. 

If you're using your own device, log in to TeamHub via Dayforce App or Web dayforcehcm.com and access the Scholarships section from there.

What should I prepare before applying?

Before starting your application, have the following information ready: Course name Education provider Study start and end dates Course costs Evidence of enrolment or application (if available) Your career goals An explanation of how the study supports your role, development, or an Opal HealthCare workforce priority It's also a good idea to discuss your plans with your manager beforehand.

How are applications assessed?

Applications are competitive and may be prioritised according to workforce need, career impact, qualification relevance, manager endorsement, previous scholarship support, state or business-area allocation, available places and budget. Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee approval.

How much funding can I receive?

Funding limits vary by qualification and are set in the Annual Scholarship Funding Schedule. The amount approved may be less than the full course cost and is subject to eligible costs, available funding and the Scholarship Panel’s decision. Refer to the current schedule and your scholarship offer for the amount that applies to you.

How are scholarships paid?

Depending on the qualification, funding may be provided by reimbursement or direct payment to the education provider. You must provide the evidence specified in your scholarship offer, which may include enrolment confirmation, invoices, receipts and study-progress information.

What documents are required for reimbursement?

You will typically need:

• A tax invoice, receipt or proof of payment
• Proof of enrolment
• A signed copy of your scholarship letter
• Any other documents requested by the Opal HealthCare Academy 

Claim should be submitted through our Online Expense Reimbursement process.

How many times can I apply?

There is no fixed limit, provided you meet the criteria for the relevant round. Previous recipients may apply again after successfully completing any prior scholarship, but scholarships remain competitive and approval is not guaranteed.

What if my course runs for more than one year?

Multi-year qualifications may be supported, but funding is not automatic. Continuing support depends on satisfactory progress, ongoing eligibility, evidence of enrolment and progress, the original scholarship conditions and available funding.

I need to defer, change or withdraw from my course. What should I do?

Notify our Learning and Organisational Development team as soon as possible and submit the Change/Withdrawal Request Form, found on the OMS. Scholarship approval does not automatically transfer or carry forward. If Opal HealthCare has reimbursed study costs and you withdraw, repayment may be required under your scholarship conditions.

I need to take extended leave while studying. What should I do?

If your leave may affect your studies, please let Learning and Organisational Development (L&OD) know as soon as possible and submit a Change/Withdrawal Request Form on the OMS. In some circumstances, you may request to pause your scholarship while on leave. Any pause must be reviewed and approved by L&OD and is not automatic.

What study leave is available?

Opal provides up to two paid scholarship study-leave days to attend examinations where required, paid at your ordinary rate. Team members undertaking the EN-to-RN pathway may access up to twenty paid study-leave days over the duration of their study. Leave must be arranged in advance with your manager and is subject to the scholarship conditions.
